Earlier this year I chatted with Vice Magazine about one of the internet’s favorite kinks – JOI. Since I’m in the habit of writing endless essays on topics I’m interested in, you can find my full, outrageously long answers here!

1. How would you personally define JOI — and what do you think most people misunderstand about it?
JOI, to me, is a masturbatory trance experience with multiple layers. As a hypnokinkster whose core kink is erotic mind control, JOI isn’t just verbal instruction, it goes way beyond the scope of simply telling someone to jerk off, as many people erroneously assume. I think this is the greatest misunderstanding about JOI. It’s about taking control of another person’s erotic energy, layer by layer. I’m a storyteller above all, and my goal is to guide the viewer through a deeply embodied journey.
I make a case for multilayered sensory involvement by combining music, pornographic sounds such as my moans and subliminal whispers along with the main track, and of course, extremely arousing imagery of myself. I love using multiple cameras for this, playing with close-ups and full-body shots. This creates a multisensory experience that fulfills many phenomenological criteria across different trance categories: experiencing what I call “mindless fucktoy sexual triggers”, imaginative involvement, sharpened awareness, alertness and heightened arousal, and relaxation of critical thinking faculties.
I’m deeply hooked on Ericksonian hypnosis, so I’ll often begin a JOI session with a quick induction, then install mental commands through neuro-linguistic programming and conditioning, such as “fucktoy hot” for instant arousal, “fucktoy lust” for an aching need to please me and fall deeper under my spell, “fucktoy edge” for an instant surge of pleasure, and of course, “fucktoy cum,” if I’m feeling extra generous. After all, the brain is like a computer and the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between real and imaginary.
Throughout the entire scene, my goal is to make the viewer feel as if my soft little Goddess hand has popped through the screen and is tormenting their aching genitals in ways they’d never even think of touching themselves. The cadence of my voice, supported by the choice of music as well as me demonstrating what I want them doing to themselves on a toy, ensures that their leaking, dripping brains are way too busy keeping track of all things involving me – so much so that they’re unable to override my programming and stroke the way they normally would when they’re alone.
And besides, the whole point of watching a gooning JOI clip is to lose control and obey a higher power, with the goal of experiencing something new.
2. Why do you think JOI and related fetishes have exploded in popularity in the creator economy era?
The rise of JOI, gooning and orgasm control fetishes in the creator economy era is no accident. As adult content became decentralized, no longer gatekept by studios or traditional porn sites, kinks that were once niche, queer-coded or underground, found new audiences through independent creators like myself. Platforms like Clips4Sale, or even Twitter and Reddit allowed JOI to evolve from a basic verbal instruction format into an immersive art form, blending hypnosis, poppers culture, tantra, and techno-erotic ritual.
The explosion in demand comes from viewers finally seeing themselves reflected, feeling understood, accepted and challenged, in content tailored directly to their deepest urges, not sanitized for the mainstream. Creators can produce highly specific, immersive, kink-positive content that traditional porn doesn’t really touch. JOI breaks the fourth wall. It’s not passive, it’s interactive and immersive. And with tools like custom clips, creators can tailor the experience to the viewer’s exact needs and fantasies.
I love having long chats with my favorite clip buyers, discussing their interests outside of kink, asking for cultural references they have a special affinity for, superheroine or femme fatale characters they had a crush on growing up, and then sexualize and weaponize my findings when creating a custom clip for them. This is how my video catalog ended up featuring Sci-Fi Gooning JOI clips inspired by Catwoman, The Matrix, Star Trek, alien abductions and sentient AI. It’s the difference between watching porn and being in it, and part of a sexual and technological revolution.
3. What emotional or psychological needs do you think this content fulfills for viewers?
A lot of viewers crave structure, surrender, or even ritual. Gooning clips in particular create a safe space for obsession, worship, addiction, feelings that are taboo in everyday life but erotic when framed by a dominant voice. It’s therapy through degradation, in a way.
JOI gives permission. It lets someone safely confess, “Hey, this turns me on,” and then be commanded to dive deeper. Whether it’s bi-curiosity, objectification, or diaper-wearing, once it becomes part of a Domme’s instructions, it stops being shameful and starts being purposeful. Obedience is pleasure — and there’s great pleasure to be found in obedience.
Many people have been socially programmed to suppress their true sexuality, and my goal is to remove those triggers in their brain that keep them from enjoying their authentic desires. I’ll often instruct a viewer to think of a time when they felt judged, ashamed, or humiliated for their kinks – and then ask them to masturbate. I do all this in a very nurturing, erotic tone of voice. I am a sensual Domme who believes the true power of femininity stems precisely from our gentle softness, which is so often mistaken for weakness. This helps my viewers process their feelings in a safe space.
Once they understand there are many other kinky, filthy, dirty little sluts just like them, and Goddesses just like me who take good care of their needs, because we’re two sides of the same coin – they feel relaxed, happy, and proud to be seen, accepted, and embraced for their uniqueness. By this time, I’ll make them edge to the realization that there are people out there who are looking for them. Who are the yin to their yang… until precum is leaking uncontrollably – which means they’ve earned a sexy cum countdown. One man’s “outrageous” is another man’s “normal”. As long as it’s safe, sane and consensual, there is no shame in human sexuality.
4. From a creator perspective, what makes producing JOI or gooning content different from traditional porn?
There’s a widely echoed truism – often repeated by those who study, create, and consume porn – that “porn is boring.” It’s a paradox: a genre designed to provoke visceral arousal often ends up numbing its audience because it fails to maintain affective intensity. The repetition, predictability, and general formula of mainstream porn create a sense of déjà vu that flattens the emotional and erotic charge, making what should feel exciting, feel mechanical and detached instead.
From a creator’s perspective, what sets JOI and gooning content apart is that it actively resists the boredom and flatness often associated with traditional porn – because it’s immersive by design. JOI demands full sensory engagement and sustained focus on the rhythm of my voice, the music, the stroking patterns I dictate, the grip, the pace, the countdown to an edge, the denial afterward, and the pause before the next round – all perfectly synchronized.
When the viewer presses play and makes direct eye contact with me, it’s intimate and immediate. I’m right there, speaking directly to them. I take control of their arousal and own their most primal release. They have no idea what will happen, no way of predicting how the story will unfold, how many edges I will torment them with, or if the next countdown will finally command an orgasm, or yet another deliciously frustrating denial right on the edge. And that uncertainty? That’s what makes it so thrilling.
5. Are there any misconceptions — inside or outside the industry — about creators who specialize in masturbation fetish content?
Oh, quite a few. The biggest one is that JOI content is easy to make, and an absolute snoozefest of telling someone to just jerk off, adding a “faster” here, and a “harder” there, while mindlessly rubbing a dildo. People seriously underestimate the psychological nuance and precision it takes to do it well.
There’s also this assumption that masturbation content is less “Dominant” in the world of Femdom and Kink, and less erotic and arousing than hardcore porn. I honestly think that’s projection. Masturbation is a very personal, most intimate act, we’re vulnerable and exposed before ourselves and others. And gooning in particular, is very intense, it’s a transcendental, some might even say mystical experience. It’s not about watching porn, it’s about surrendering to what it truly stands for.
Inside the industry, I think some Femdom creators still don’t get why JOI and Gooning are blowing up. They see the trend, but not the underlying transformation. I believe this isn’t just another niche, but a bona fide cultural shift. JOI creators are not just riding a wave, we’re building on it, spreading porn-positive, sexually liberating propaganda worldwide and changing minds, one stroke at a time.
We’re giving viewers something they can’t get from traditional porn: interactivity, intimacy, excitement, new experiences, new types of climax, like hands-free orgasms, and the feeling of being seen in their kink. And that’s powerful.
6. How do you see the virtual space shaping the intimacy and connection between creator and viewer in JOI content?
Cyberspace consists of transactions, relationships, and thought itself, arrayed like a standing wave in the web of our communications. Ours is a world that is both everywhere and nowhere, but it is not where bodies live. And yet, in many ways, it might be more real than reality. Online, we shed our physical constraints. We open up emotionally, sexually, and psychologically in ways that are often impossible in our offline lives.
There’s a unique kind of vulnerability that happens when someone is alone in the dark with their headphones on, my voice tickling their synapses, surrendering their arousal and control to me, even though we’ve never physically met. That space of hyper-focus where kink, filth, technology and identity all converge – that’s where some of the most honest, raw, and intense sexual experiences can happen.
It’s not about being less real because it’s not physical, I think it’s about being more true, because there’s no performance for the outside world. It’s just you, me, and the screen between us.

So beautiful words! Mhmmm!
